Dr. Charles Clark

Chief  Research Scientist

Charles W. Clark is an Emeritus Fellow and former Co-Director of the Joint Quantum Institute of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Maryland. A retired career civil servant, Clark held a variety of technical and management positions at NIST and the Office of Naval Research, United States Navy. While in the Senior Executive Service, he received the Presidential Rank Award of Distinguished Executive. Clark has held visiting fellowships at the University of Oxford, Australian National University, National University of Singapore and University of Malaya. With Victor Galitski, he co-designed and taught “Exploring Quantum Physics” on the Coursera platform. Clark designed and teaches the “Quantum Boot Camp,” an introductory course of the University of Maryland Quantum Information Specialization. He has served on the boards of the Institute of Quantum Computing (Canada) and the Centre for Quantum Technologies (Singapore), and in 2023 he joined the Board of Advisors for ScienceCast, Inc. Clark is co-investigator on a recent proposal by ScienceCast to the National Science Foundation entitled “Proto-OKN Theme 1: Quantum Understanding through Accessible Resource Knowledge Graphs (QUARK).”
